"Being at 38.000ft inspires me" - Pilot Maria ✈️ πŸ’™

Imagine what it would be like to be a women pilot.
Explore, study, love, share, dream and respect.

Meet Maria aka pilot.maria,
the world's biggest pilot on Instagram. πŸ”₯

Did you always want to be a pilot or did you have any other job prospects when you were young?
I didn't know that I wanted to be a pilot before I was 24. I have always loved to travel and wanted to have a profession where I could keep exploring the world. As a child I wanted to be a Vet and then a pop star, lacking the ability to sing it didn't work out, haha!

When I thought of becoming a pilot it felt just right! It was like lifting a heaving weight from my chest and felt like making my dreams a reality, I have never questioned my decision ever since!

Looking at your Instagram you must have been to a ton of amazing places. What’s your favourite location and why?
It would be impossible to pick one! hahaha it is never so much about the destination but the experience and the people I travel with. I just came back from a week in Latvia's capital Riga and I had the most amazing time flying fighter jets, drifting with cars and tons of other adventures. That trip is definitely high up on the list and a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. But I also love relaxing vacations to destinations like Bali where I was this past February with a group of friends. One of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited is Colombia and Croatia! I would love to go back to both one day.

If you could choose to fly any plane in the world, what would it be?
I would have loved to fly the Concorde, there is no other passenger plane like the Concorde. But I also love aerobatic flying and recently had a dream come true flying the L-39 Albatros in Riga. The L-39 Albatros is a military training fighter jet, I loved it! The freedom to fly up side down, inverted, loops and rolls was just amazing!

What inspired you the most to become an pilot?
My biggest inspiration was to explore the world, see our beautiful planet from 38.000 feet! My dad didn't know it at the time, but ever since I was a child he inspired me and helped grow my passion for aviation. He use to fly small single engine airplane as a hobby when he was younger and has always had a passion for aviation that he passed along to me. Both my mum and sister are terrified of flying so maybe I wanted to show them just how safe it is.

Does yoga have an influence on you as a pilot?
Yes definitely. I can feel huge different in my body the days I donΒ΄t have time for my morning yoga routine before going to work. For  me it is not only about getting flexible but to get the blood flow going and awaking my body. I used to suffer lower back pain that has now completely disappeared since I started yoga.

Who is your biggest female inspiration?
My biggest female inspiration would be my mum!
There is no stronger woman than my mum!
If I turn out to be just half as good as her I would consider myself the luckiest woman alive.

What advice would you give to young women who aspire to be like you?
DonΒ΄t give up. You are the only one that sets your limits. If anyone ever tell you you cant do something, prove them wrong and do twice over. Use critique as stepping stones that makes you stronger, wiser and a better person.

And last of all, imagine yourself in three words.
I would like to believe that I am a Positive person, Stubborn in a way that I donΒ΄t give up and lastly a Dreamer :) (You have to allow yourself to dream to reach the magic places no one has ever explored :))
